Final part of my tune up. After giving text and phone lessons to Cindy Chebultz, I was motivated to knock out my impellars. So much easier to be proactive. When we were doing the loop we lost one and i have the U coolers. Had to take it all apart to recover all the pieces. Anyhow, two tricks i use. First, crazy glue the woodruff key in place. Mine always slip down and mess up the impellar installation. Second, i learned from a mechanic years ago. Use dawn to lube before you twist the impellar in and load up the chamber before you close it up. You will see the results in the video. It gives temporary lubrication and you can see the flow clearly when you light up the engines.

Annually for us, twin 454 Crusaders… very cheap insurance.
Dawn dish soap is a good one.
Dielectric grease (silicone based). Stays put until you crank it.
White lithium works .. great
No fair doing it on a work bench.
Look like they needed replacement anyways….and cheap insurance.
Yep. I do the exact same thing. Not the super glue but good idea! I usually just mark where the key goes with a sharpie on the top of the shaft.
I ise the same trick for below and partially below exhausts. Gives peace of mind!
Dawn is good for many things.
been using the dish soap trick for years
Be prepared, carry new one on board all times, mine are a peace a cake to get to,
Dawn also works well on a squeaky fender while rafted out
