My method of adjusting packing nuts. I last did it about 3 months ago in 75 degree salt water. Now the water is fresh and cold requiring another adjustment. I like to do it while under way always. Not at dock. The saft actually heats a little when running so in my opinion if you do it at the dock and get it just right it may not be the case when under way. This is only my opinion but works for me. #MissMarianne.

might need to try using sound to adjust them …just talking out loud but i didnt see him hold back when tightening the locking nut,.so the nuts not locked

I always find they need a few hours on a new set of packing and then re-adjusted. Good to know about going from salt to fresh.
Just like aligning the shafts. We always loosen the engine mounts while under way until the vibration is gone.
