So before I got this boat it was barely used for 10+ years. And I always just use the onboard water tank (because you can’t sink a boat with water that’s on board) but the stuff in the bottom of the water tank occasionally clogs up my faucets and shower. Next time it gets low maybe I need to see if there’s a way to Shop-Vac it out??? Any other suggestions??

No drain plug? Or pull the hose and flush let the bilge pump handel the flush?
Take it to a radiator shop and have it steam cleaned and pressure tested while they’re at it if it’s not too difficult to remove.
If you are pulling it just replace it. Did that with the tanks in the trojan
If this is for potable fresh water, I wouldn’t even question it. Replace it with stainless steel rated for food service and be done with it. Expensive? Yes. But you will know what’s in there for drinking, food prep, and bathing.
Replaced mine with a plastic tank never any problems just worked on a 400,000.00 sea ray it had plastic water tanks stainless is a waste of money and time
Never used onboard water as it was always problematic like you say ! They make a product to flush it I believe!
^^^^Good weight savings vs stainless, but you have to watch what it’s made with. All plastic tanks are capable of potable water storage, but not all are food grade:
PVC and ABS will work fine. They will not outgas into the stored water, nor will they leach;
HDPE will work, but the surface contacting the water can leach over time based on the ph of the water. HDPE will also retain the odor and taint of bleach if used to sanitize.
GRP should only be used for greywater. Ideally, they need to be separated by a bulkhead/firewall from areas at risk of fire because GRP has the burn characteristics of fiberglass boat hull. GRP also outgasses inside itself, making it unsuitable for drinking water.
The cost savings is a good argument.
add a home depot simple water filter just after the water pump
I’m with Bill Hayes on this one, add a strainer before the pump and add a whole house style water filter from a big box hardware store after the pump. This should take care of material coming from the tank and give you a few years to decide on a long term tank replacement plan.
Replace it if you can.
I’ve had the same problem, sludge in sink filters. I also have tank only in my Roamer, no fresh water connection. . Trick is to keep tank from getting to low. And we don’t drink the water from holding tank, we just buy bottled water.
Rule #1 never drink water from an onboard tank. I’ve heard to many stories of people getting sick.
Simple temporary cheap fix add a filter before the pump

If it is clogging up things, You need a major cleaning of that tank, Or replace, mines 55 gal plastic, You can see in there and see if anything is in there,
