Uh…Screws!
Hahaha
Don’t forget to reach in there and get the coons out.
Plugs and screws
Wood dowels sawed off and sanded flush
How’s the chine?
I ask as the one support in the right(rearward at the end of the plank replacement) of the picture looks like it’s forcing in on the chine.
Could just be me and bad eyes though lol
Silicon bronze screws and mahogany plugs. I have both in inventory. I’m on Live Oak Lane.
3M makes a below waterline filler
So it is not plugs on my boat … More like window glazing puddy, clay like??
Famowood wood filler. It dries out quickly while trying to apply it. Use a sandwich baggie and snip the corner off, you can apply it like a cake decorating frosting bag.
They used puddy below the waterline
Patrick is correct for below waterline!
Mine didn’t have plugs either … just filled in ..
My 58 sportsman and 65 Connie have filled screw holes below the water line.
Yes it resembles clay.
Plugs above the waterline.
Ask Albert if you can use this stuff below the waterline?

Any Marsh rats C ?
I saw a comment about dowels…..NEVER USE DOWELS! the grain runs the wrong direction
Original product was famowood. Still available. We use marine two part filler( not epoxy) polyester filler. Mix the two parts and put in cake decorating paper and squeeze the stuff into the holes filling them from the bottom out so you don’t trap air. Cures quickly sands off easily. Available from auto body supply stores ( will have an anchor on it if marine) or available from west marine at some ridiculous high price.
Remember… you can do it my way or the wrong way! ????
They used white lead mixed with linseed oil which was also used to fill canvas of canvas covered topsides. In 1971 when I started, white lead was already phased out and we spread bond-o everywhere as it was cheap and fast but as products came along we changed with the times. Because C/C were on the lighter side of plank thickness and riddled with screws they used a smaller wire screw and a shallow countersink to maintain planks integrity…thus no plugs and it was faster. Albert will guide you with your choice of filler…some stuff sags before cure which means filling twice
Just use epoxy with fairing filler.
She’s a beautiful lady, even with her ripped skirt????

Bungs. Mahogany plugs. They swell to protect the screw, but are easy to remove.
It was famowood the bought it by the railroad car all the used below waterline and above if painted
There is absolutely no reason to use the exact filler they used decades ago. Epoxy fillers work fine. Absolutely absurd to use the exact filler used originally considering it will be painted
I used West System with filler .

I used this, like Paul said air bubbles are the big issue and I varied the hardener to allow me to come back over it to get them out.

Stick with the 3m stuff
I would use plugs Cindy. And you don’t buy plugs, you cut the plugs from the plank scraps. It’s just the right way. Imho
Famowood
I added screws on my Chris Craft bottom between the factory screws coated and filled with boatlife, fresh from Boatlife(makes it much thinner). 10 years and still unchanged, painted yearly.
Famowood

Cindy I have some vc watertight if you want it
Went to Crowley Marina did not find a bell in resale.
Originally Chris Craft filled the screw holes with…screws.
