This table brace drives me nuts because it’s hard to get in and out of the dinette … Anyone have a picture of what is originally supposed to be there?

That looks pretty original. We had a 31 Trojan that had 2 square posts in about the same location that pivoted up to remove the table with locks at the top. It was just as uncomfortable to sit at due to the positioning.

single post. with hinge at wall and hook or strap to hold up to the overhead when making a bed of the two benches. Assuming benches have the clever sliding hardware. I think the leg detaches easily.
If it is like mine… the table has to be stowed and the seat bottoms slide out and meet each other and the seat backs fold down to complete the bed. Table not involved

My dad decided he didn’t use the one on our 38 Commander and took the table and the booth seating out. It really opened up the cabin. Just a thought.
What year is your boat? Connie or cavalier? I have seen the very same support used for seats on the cavaliers
To expand on single wood leg…. taper leg from 6” at top to 1” at bottom…hinge top to underside of table so it can fold up when not needed…..hold up with ball catch….will not protrude more than table apron so will store flat
Mine is all wood and whole unit collapses into a bed and end leafs fold down
Our ‘63 originally had a single post that was wide at the top and narrowed at the base. At some point it was replaced by a metal pipe. The table stows on the deck and the dinette seats slide to form the bed.
mine is too old to compare to yours, but I think it works like you’re describing…
single post, same slide-up brackets on the wall like yours, post comes out, and there’s a slight ledge on the upright section below the seat cushion where the table will sit to span the gap between the seats. you put the seat backs and bottoms across where the table is and you have a supremely lumpy bed. There’s actually two wooden spacers that stow under the aft dinette bench that raise up one side of the seat backs so it’s a little flatter. still lumpy though.

I think we have the same boat. Didn’t you say yours was a ‘67? My Father’s is a ‘68.
